We Love Forests

Beautiful attractions and natural wonders from around the Interwood office.

Franklin Federal Courthouse

This project complements Ribbon Stripe Sapeli with Block Mottle Macore. Both are African species, both of the same color family but each are of a different figure type, Ribbon Stripe vs Block Mottle. Sapeli is the primary specie and the Block Mottle Macore is the secondary specie used for the trim, columns, table tops, and railings. This decision provides breaks from the repititious Ribbon Stripe pattern and frames the court room. Th Ribbon Stripe pattern draws attention to the judge while creating a traditional dignified judicial space. (Bonus: The traditional wood used to design courthouses is English Brown Oak.)

Burj Dubai

The Burj Khalifa is a marvel of engineering and design. From the outside it’s the tallest building in the world and on the inside one of the most beautiful. It contains wood veneer species from Wenge and Santos Rosewood to Kawazinga and Figured Maple. Fritz Kohl along with Interwood supplied 290,000 meters of the finest wood veneer used to decorate all 899 residences in the tower, all the hallways, lift lobbies, sky lounges, and amenity levels.

Geiger Showroom

The beauty of nature is often beyond what we can imagine but here Geiger has brought our imaginations to life using quartered Paldao. Our special Paldao log, Birdseye Paldao, was debuted at Neocon 2017 in the Geiger showroom. Birdseye figure is often admired in Maple but rarely is it found in other species. For a large growing tree like Paldao it’s truly a once in a lifetime gem of the forest.

Jet Interiors

Wood veneers are the main choice for designers of private aircraft due to the weight requirements and the demand for luxury appeal. Once the desired species are selected they’re applied to the dashboards, tables, bulkheads, and the galleys. Below are just a few examples of the possibilities.

Miami Dolphin Suites

The renovated club suites at Miami Dolphins Sun Life Stadium features the finest Contrasty Teak veneer. All parts of the flatcut cathedral are used and the leafs are slip matched up the wall so the fast changing sequence can be fully appreciated. This application of the veneer leafs in combination with a contrasty grain structure creates forward movement through the corridor. Teak is the essential Yacht wood making it fitting for the Miami team!

1155 Sixth Avenue

We sourced this White Oak log from Slovania where more then half the country is covered by naturally diverse, old growth forests. High altitudes and mountainous terrain protect the forests from being developed for agricultural use. This allows for little to no disturbance in the growth cycle of the tree allowing for superb growth rings and consistent grain structure. Slovanian Oak has long been the wood of choice for Italian furniture producers precisely due to its straight grain and sturdiness.
